SWEEP is a 4 year old, micro-chipped,
neutered male imported from the UK.
He is fully trained on sheep, but has
recently been diagnosed with PRA.
His vision is not totally gone, but will be
at some point. We’d like to find him a
home while he still has some vision
left.
Sweep can live a complete, full life
without vision. He feels most secure
being close to us, and is very loving
and sweet. Another dog to “be his
eyes” and follow around is also good.
A friend of mine with a PRA dog says
the following:
“Honestly, around the house- you would
never know he was blind. Every once in a
while- when he is giddy and playful- he
forgets where he is and walks into
something. Otherwise, even if I move
furniture, he gets the floor plan right on the
first shot. He chases my other dog around
like a pro. He grabs bones off the floor like a
fish hitting a worm. His other senses are
definitely heightened.
People tend to feel sorry for him, but there is
nothing to feel sorry for. He is very intelligent,
obedient, and functions as a normal dog
would (only thing he doesn't do is run full
speed-he only maxes out in third gear... he is
cautious).”
I suspect Sweep to do well wherever
he goes. He is a smart, loyal dog
eager to learn and please.
